After recent arrests of Poles in Belarus, the Coalition of Polish Americans published the following letter to President Biden, expressing our grave concern for the safety of Polish minority in Belarus. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka, who has served as the first and only president of Belarus, faces widespread social unrest after last year elections. On August 19, the European Council issued a statement declaring that “The August 9 elections were neither free nor fair, therefore we do not recognize the results”. Lukashenka has a long history of using minorities and especially Poles as scapegoats to resolve domestic issues.
